Scope and Contents Fifty-nine (59) maps dating from circa 1930 - 1972 of the Fontana Mining Corporation, Cities Service Minerals Corporation, or other corporate operations, and featuring the area of the Fontana Mines (North Carolina) and/or the physical layout of the mines. Featured areas include Eagle Creek, Swain County, N.C. Also included in the collection are four (4) tonnage sheets for 1932-1933.

Content Description The collection was given as a gift to Western Carolina Teachers College by the executor of Kephart's will, with other items donated by Kephart's son, George Kephart. Dr. William E. Bird and Hiram C. Wilburn were instrumental in obtaining the collection for a museum they wanted to start. The items are arranged alphabetically by trail name and then chronologically within each trail heading. The trails and trail systems covered include the North Carolina Bartram Trail, the Appalachian Trail, the Benton MacKaye Trail, North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail, as well as bicycle trails, canoe trails, and individual hiking trails, most of them in western North Carolina.
