Content Description A.C. Reynolds (1870 - 1953) served as the second president of Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School (Western Carolina University), from 1912 to 1920. He was influential in Buncombe County education and instrumental in establishing Rutherford College, in Brevard, NC. Reynolds wrote about his experiences in fostering education in western North Carolina, his beliefs about the role of education, and his life as a boy in the mountains of western North Carolina in the late 1890s. Scope and Contents John S. Seymour was an Associate Professor of Sociology at Western Carolina Teachers College (WCTC) (later Western Carolina University). Seymour was born in Charleston, SC, on April 5, 1893. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees (1921, 1927) in social science and education from the University of South Carolina, and a second M.A. degree from Columbia University (1928).
