Content Description The Great Smoky Mountains Railway was a railway which operated in western North Carolina, and was founded in 1988, as a tourist railroad. The railway originally operated on 67 miles of track between Dillsboro and Murphy, which was the western portion of the route known as the "Murphy Branch."
