This collection contains photographs by Frank Emmett Fry (December 13, 1877 - February 12, 1939) of Swain County, NC. Some of the images in the collection depict Hewitt and the surrounding area. Also of note are images of Bryson City, NC, in Swain County.

Biographical / Historical

Frank Emmett Fry (December 13, 1877 - February 12, 1939) was the superintendent of the North Carolina Talc and Mining Company in Hewitt, NC, in Swain County. Fry was married to Martha Emerelda Pender (February 24, 1879 - October 31, 1938), and they had seven children. The family moved to Bryson City in 1914 and operated the Entella Hotel. In 1926, they moved to Waynesville, NC, in Haywood County, but returned to Bryson City in about 1936 to resume operating the Entella Hotel.
