Identifier: MSS 18-05

Content Description

Dr. Sara Sutton Madison (1931-2017) was the daughter of Eddie Marie Wike Sutton and Ralph Coleman Sutton. Eddie Marie Wike Sutton was the daughter of Dallas W. Wike and Emma Jane Shelton Wike, of Jackson County, NC. Sara’s parents and Sara lived in Davies Hall on the campus of Western Carolina University, and later in the community of Buzzards Roost, overlooking Western Carolina University. Much of this collection is composed of photographs, family correspondence, and other documents concerning the Wike, Sutton, and related families, as well as materials pertaining to the history of Western Carolina University, due to the close association that the family has with the school. Eddie Marie Wike Sutton and her daughter Sara both had interest in history and genealogy, both women were also writers, and their writings are also included in this collection.

The bulk of this collection is from the estate of Sara Madison, but she also donated to Western Carolina Special Collections during her life. Those contributions are numbered:

SM 02-07 Sara Madison SM 05-08 Sara Madison, Add. #1 MSS 06-07 Sara Madison
