Appalachian Natural Studies Collection
Content Description
This collection contains reports prepared by J. Dan Pittillo, biology professor at Western Carolina University, associates, and students. These consist of natural history profiles of selected areas of western North Carolina and the Appalachian Mountains, prepared for the National Park Service and the Highlands Biological Station (Highlands, NC). The reports profile physiography, history, vegetation, and present and future uses.
The addition to the collection consists of a copy of "Important Plant Habitats of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Roanoke to Rock Fish Gap, Virginia," by Douglas A. Coleman and J. Dan Pittillo. The study was a cooperative arrangement between the Southeastern Regional Office and Blue Ridge Parkway, National Park Service, and Western Carolina University.
