Scope and Contents
Charles A. Bird was a farmer, community leader, Methodist lay leader, and political figure of Qualla Township in Jackson County, NC. He served as chairman of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. He was the father of William E. Bird, who was dean of Western Carolina College from 1921-1957 (see MSS 80-34).
The collection consists of correspondence, business and legal papers, and genealogical information on the Bird, Terrell, Wells, Reynolds, and related families, and includes William Holland Thomas and James W. Terrell.
