Scope and Contents The collection contains correspondence of James R. Thomas, of Waynesville, NC, A. C. Avery of Morganton, NC, and Avery's wife (sister of James R. Thomas). James Thomas was the son of William H. Thomas, a North Carolina state senator, Cherokee Indian agent, and attorney for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. A. C.
