Scope and Contents The one item in this collection is a fifty-page legal document entitled "Abstract of Title to the Realty Holdings of the Cullowhee Mining and Reduction Company, Situated, Lying, and Being in Jackson County, North Carolina," prepared by Coleman C. Cowan, an attorney from Webster, NC. The document is dated April 14, 1906, and is a summary of the history of titles to six tracts of land owned by the mining company.

Scope and Contents The Zachary family of western North Carolina owned land in Jackson, Swain and Buncombe counties during the 1800s.

The collection consists of deeds, land grants, and surveys for the counties mentioned above. There are two pieces of family correspondence and a receipt for a land purchase. The land grants, with accompanying surveys, are the original deeds from when the land was purchased from the U.S. government.
