Dr. William E. Bird and Hiram C. Wilburn were instrumental in obtaining the collection for a museum they wanted to start. Content Description Ninian Edmonston (1789-1868) was a citizen of Haywood County, NC. He became a surveyor early in life, and assisted, at the age of nineteen, in surveying the boundary line between Buncombe County, NC, and Haywood County, NC. He served as sheriff of Haywood County for four years. He also served in both the North Carolina Senate and House of Commons (1821-1835), ultimately serving nine terms.
