William Wilson (1831-1910) was a Cullowhee, NC, landowner and member of the "Noble Nine," the first board of trustees of Cullowhee High School (later Western Carolina University).
Much of the collection consists of land deeds and descriptions, promissory notes, and legal papers. The land deeds are in the general Cullowhee area, although some extend into Macon County, NC. The promissory notes were held mostly by the Wilson family.
Also included is some family correspondence to William Wilson from J.M. Chastain, of Georgia; the will of Henry Wilson; a petition to the governor for a pardon for Confederate service of William Wilson; litigation records; timber rights; and related materials.
