Cherokee maps collection

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 85-14
The collection consists of reproductions of maps from archives in Canada, Great Britain, and Spain. The maps feature Cherokee towns and place names, or refer to Cherokee territory.

The reproductions are arranged according to the archives holding the original map, and then by date within each national grouping. The language represented on a specific map does not necessarily correspond to the national archives holding that map. For instance, there are numerous maps with notations written in English or French listed under "Spain", because the Spanish archives held copies of those maps.

The description for each map contains the following information:

(1) A short geographic title

(2) The date of the map in bold

(3) The title as it appears on the map

(4) The map-maker or printer, if given

(5) Insets, illustrations (Illus.) and comments on the map

(6) The acquisition number of the original archives and the number of segments per map, in brackets
